Ranking methodology
The ten cameras are scored on five criteria, each read from the manufacturer’s official spec sheet. Each criterion gives 0 to 3 points, weighted into a score out of 100. The rank is the result of that score: no criterion or weight is adjusted to reach a given order.
3 points for 4K or 8 MP and above, 2 points from 3 to 5 MP (2K, 3K), 1 point for Full HD 1080p.
3 points for a motorised, pan/tilt or dual lens, 2 points for a fixed field of 150° or more, 1 point under 150° or when the angle is not given.
One point per announced option (5 GHz Wi-Fi, Ethernet, 4G, PoE, battery, bundled or built-in solar panel), 3 points at most.
3 points if the spec sheet announces local storage (microSD card or built-in memory), 0 otherwise.
3 points at €60 or below, 2 points from €60.01 to €120, 1 point above €120.
Information missing from the official spec sheet counts as the lowest level of the criterion. On equal scores, image resolution decides. Data consulted on 29 September 2026 on the official spec sheets, completed on 20 October 2026 for the price of the Reolink Argus 4 Pro (bundle with solar panel), the angle of the Tapo C310, and the connection and storage of the Tapo C675D KIT.

Wi-Fi, 4G or solar: which outdoor camera to choose?
A power socket within two metres of the mounting spot? A wired camera like the C560WS or the C520WS is still the simplest choice: no battery to watch, and Ethernet as a fallback. If the signal does not reach the end of the garden, the guide powerline or Wi-Fi extender compares the two ways to extend the network.
No socket but plenty of sun is where solar kits shine: C460 KIT, Argus 4 Pro with its panel, S340, C675D KIT. No internet box at all, and only 4G works, with the C501GW.
Before mounting the camera, the guide to home security camera rules in France explains what you are allowed to film, and the one on IP65 meaning details the weatherproofing ratings quoted in the spec sheets. To watch footage on the go, see how to view a security camera remotely on a smartphone.
The other guides in this section are grouped under security cameras.
